Today I got to spend a fabulous afternoon at Page Turners Camp in Saratoga Springs. 15 campers spent the day doing Bearhaven-inspired activities (Freeze-Bear, bear yoga, making bear fact posters etc.) culminating in a question and answer session and book signing with me. Talk about an author’s dream come true. I always love talking to readers about Bearhaven, but the icing on the cake today was getting to do this with Northshire Bookstore. I grew up going to the Northshire in Manchester, Vermont, and have written or edited sections of all four of the Bearhaven books there. I always hoped to have a book on the Northshire shelves, but it never occurred to me that their summer camp might dedicate a day to my series!

Tonight I had the privilege of reading at the Montclair Public Library’s annual Little Read event! I read alongside fellow Egg in the Hole teammate, Meet the Bobs and Tweets illustrator Kristy Caldwell, the mayor of Montclair and actor Frankie Faison!
This month I packed my bags and flew to Chicago to spend two weeks in the area schools, meeting readers, teachers and librarians! I spoke to over a thousand students, signed hundreds or books, and best of all, got some really awesome letters from classes I visited!
In November, I’m off to Gilbert, Iowa, and Kansas City, with a few visits in Montclair, New Jersey and Worcester, Massachusetts to look forward to as well!
How amazing is this cover for Secrets of Bearhaven: Hidden Rock Rescue?! Illustrator Ross Dearsley continues to amaze me! Can’t wait to see the art inside the book!
In January I hit the road to meet Bearhaven readers and their teachers. I started in Massachusetts, at my very own elementary school and also the school where my mother teaches fifth grade: Bancroft. It was the perfect place to do my first ever classroom visit… or first five!
At the end of the month I visited the Calverton School in Maryland where I spoke to third, fourth and fifth grade students, as well as the entire middle school (eek!) before doing my first book signing.
Just as I’d expected, one of the BEST parts about being a children’s book author is hanging out with kids! Next I’m off to Newark for the My Very Own Library Event, then Pennsylvania and Delaware for a few very special school visits. Can’t wait!
Secrets of Bearhaven: Mission to Moon Farm officially has a cover. And it's amazing! Ross Dearsley, Beahaven's incredible illustrator, has done it again. I hope readers love it as much as I do!
The first book in the Secrets of Bearhaven series has been published! I went to see it with my very own eyes at Barnes and Noble yesterday!
Secrets of Bearhaven has its very own website! Visit www.secretsofbearhaven.com for a ton of fun stuff including: a cooking show hosted by a bear, real bear facts, a clip of the audio book read aloud by the one and only Louisa Gummer, video of me growling back and forth with a linguist, an awesome teaching guide, and more!
